Interbike Partners with North Carolina Cyclo-Cross Series for Fall CycloFest 2016
- Industry Race Planned Among Numerous Categories -
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – February 11, 2016 – Interbike, the largest bicycle industry trade show in North America, today announced a strategic partnership with the North Carolina Cyclo-Cross (NCCX) organization to produce a marquis race at Fall CycloFest later this year. The race is set to take place on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC, and is expected to have one of the largest purses for a cyclocross (CX) event on the East Coast.
“NCCX has a reputation of putting on first-class cyclocross events in North Carolina, including a high-profile UCI sanctioned event in Hendersonville,” said Pat Hus, Vice President of Interbike. “This event will be special with an incredible amount of industry support from the brands that will be exhibiting at CycloFest.”
The following race categories for elite and amateur CX racers are tentatively planned:
- Single Speed
- Juniors 9-12
- Juniors 13-14
- Juniors 15-18
- Youth Race
- Women CX4
- Women 40+ CX4
- Masters Women 40+ CX2,3
- Elite Women Pro/CX1,2,3
- Men CX4,5
- Men CX3
- Masters Men 40+ CX4,5
- Masters Men 40+ CX1,2,3
- Masters Men 50+ CX1,2,3
- Elite Men Pro/CX1,2
Tim Hopkin, Founder of NCCX, is working to help make this race one of the premier CX events east of the Mississippi.
“We’re excited to partner with Interbike to help make CycloFest a major event in our state,” he said. “The U.S. National Whitewater Center is a great venue, and we’ll put together a challenging course that all levels of racers will enjoy.”
Event organizers are also planning an Industry Cup for anyone who works in the bicycle industry. More details will come later this spring.
